Do you have a response to what you’ve heard? Do you want to contribute your perspective to this discussion to expand on or challenge what others have shared?
We invite you to be a part of this ongoing conversation, whether you fancy yourself an artist or not.
Two Options for Responses:
- Direct Response to Specific Piece: If you want to respond to something one of the other contributors shared, we ask that you answer this prompt: What do you wish to say to the artist who created this piece? What past experiences shape your reaction to what you heard?
- Response that Adds to Overall Thread: If you want to respond more generally to a specific thread, we ask that you answer one of the prompts below:
- Children/Climate Change: Tell us about how climate change has impacted your decision whether to have children. How do you feel about people having children as our planet’s climate changes drastically?
- Silence: Tell us about a moment when you didn’t speak up. What did you want to say? Why didn’t you? What was the cost of your silence to yourself or others? (Note: we welcome your honesty and encourage your bravery in sharing your story, but we cannot promise absolution. We hope, instead, that sharing your story can help you and others reflect on how to speak up when you feel you need to.)
- Body Image: Tell us about a moment when you (consciously or unconsciously) judged your own body or someone else’s. Where does this judgment come from?
- Self-Care: Tell us about a moment when you were in need of self care. Did you get the care you needed? How does this moment shape your opinion about self-care?
- Family & Freedom: Tell us about a moment when you felt like you needed to prioritize yourself over supporting or caring for your family. How does this shape your overall thinking about family versus self-interest?
You have four choices for sharing your response:
- Call and leave us a voicemail at (202) 743-4885
- Pre-record your response (.wav file preferred) and email it to stickingpointsaudio@gmail.com.
- Write a piece and email it to stickingpointsaudio@gmail.com. We can help find someone to perform it for you.
- Send us a pitch at stickingpointsaudio@gmail.com. We can help you shape it into something that fits the guidelines below.
As you prepare your response, please follow these guidelines:
- Keep submissions under 2 minutes. As these threads grow, we know that shorter pieces will allow listeners to hear more perspectives.
- We welcome your honesty and differing opinions. We encourage a plethora of viewpoints, not just whether you agree or disagree with the piece. That’s the only way to stop the echo chamber and have real conversations about these topics. That said, please be civil. We won’t publish hate speech, personal attacks, or vicious language against any other artists/submitters.
- State in your voicemail or email what specific thread you are responding to. You are welcome to respond to multiple threads, but we see these as distinct conversations. If you want to submit a response to each of our five threads, feel free!
- You may share your name, post under a pseudonym, or be listed as anonymous. We want to foster conversation, but respect your right to privacy. Please tell us your preference.
- We may reach out to you to ask you to re-record or resubmit. We care about what you are saying and want to make sure we fully capture your perspective. Sharing your thoughts in so little time can be hard! Or maybe there's a weird audio glitch we can't fix.
- All submissions are voluntary. There is no financial compensation for your contribution to this discussion. If we post your piece, we will send along a waiver regarding your rights and our responsibilities.
Please allow two weeks for us to post your response to the Thread’s playlist. We will let you know when the material is published.
